Woodturning 101 — Introduction to Woodturning
Learn about the fastest growing craft activity in the USA. Learn about wood lathe operation, tools, and safest turning techniques. Class includes extensive written materials, fun turning activities of increasing complexity and projects to take home. Skill Level: Beginning. Prerequisite: willingness to learn something new and fun. Textbook: A Lesson Plan for Woodturning sold in class $20. No class 5/10. (Number of weeks varies)

Woodturning 201 —Basic Bowl Turning
Woodturning 201 —Basic Bowl Turning Introduction
The next step in woodturning is learning about new tools and techniques used to turn wooden bowls. Discussion will include information on good design and multiple techniques for mounting and turning. Textbook: A Lesson Plan for Woodturning sold in class $20. Prerequisite: Woodturning — 101 or Instructor approval. One hour lunch.

Woodturning 301 — Advanced Green and Natural Edge Bowls
This course continues basic wood turning instructions. Students will turn both green wood and dry wood bowls: Finished edge and natural edges, standard and thin walled. Instruction will include harvesting and preparing locally cut trees into bowl blanks. The tools of use will primarily be the deep-fluted gouge and bowl scrapers. Prerequisite: Woodturning — 201 or Instructor approval. No class 5/10. (6 weeks)

Woodturning — Chain Saw Introduction
Introduction into what a chain saw is, how it works, safety requirements and how best to maintain the chain saw. Then some practical hands on experience with cutting wood with a purpose. Two lessons in the classroom, one in the field. (2 weeks)

Woodturning — Fitted Lid Boxes
End grain turning requires unique approaches, techniques and specially designed tools. Learn how to use specific jigs and jam chucks and complete a box with a properly fitted lid. Prerequisite: Woodturning – 101 or instructor’s approval. (4 weeks)

An introduction to Tree ID, dealing with common trees used in landscaping. Tree keys and tree parts for the purpose of identification will be shown and demonstrated. (4 weeks)

Woodturning — Turning Platters and Plates NEW!
Class will focus on a variety of techniques and tools needed to make Platters and Plates. We will cover various methods for holding, laying out by balancing form versus function. This is also a great opportunity to improve your turning skills since we will be working with relatively thin blanks. (3 weeks)

Woodturning — Casting Pen and Jewelry Blanks NEW!
Learn how to cast your own Acrylic Pen, Jewelry and Other blanks using Alumilite Clear Casting Resin. We will also cover a variety of ways to make your own molds from Silicon, HDPE and other materials. A wide variety of fillers and dyes will be available for you to use in class – the only limit will be your imagination. (3 weeks)

These are times for independent work – and are a staple of our turning program. Come and work with expert coaches. Our vast selection of tools and accessories will allow you to undertake most project opportunities. Pay for only the session you attend. Skill Level: Open to all students and former students.
