SketchUp for the Woodworker/Woodturner Register here
Now is the time to master SketchUp from your own home!  Be prepared when school opens, or when working on a project in your own shop, to use SketchUp with confidence.  Prior to class, students will email their SketchUp file to the instructor. Each class will begin with a 15 minute presentation on a specific SketchUp process, and the remaining class time will be devoted to addressing challenges submitted by students on their projects in process, either one of their choice or one from the textbook.  In class, the instructor will work through the process to resolve the issue on his shared screen.
Prerequisites:  Download the free version of SketchUp 2017 Make. Download and print the PDF of SketchUp Guide for Woodworkers (EBOOK). Students should be proficient in the use of basic SketchUp Tools including, Select, Eraser, Line, Arc, Circle, Push/Pull and Tape Measure.  These tools are described in chapters 1 - 4.  (8 Weeks)

Woodturning- Lathe Tool Sharpening Techniques - Demonstrated and Explained Register here
Sharp tools are a necessity for ease of use and safety. Have a unique sharpening issue? Jim will demonstrate techniques that produce sharp tools, safely, and repeatably.  Jim will use both video clips and live demonstrations to answer all your questions and make you a better tool sharpener.

Woodturning – Develop Five Skew Chisel Cutting Techniques Register here
Practicing the five basic cuts with the skew chisel is the key to mastery.  Jim will demonstrate those cuts and suggest practice techniques to assist you in developing those needed skills.  This is a hand-on interactive demonstration.

Woodturning – Turn It Thin and Let It Warp Register here
Green wood loves to warp, so in this class we will harness that movement by turning thin bowls out of a variety of wood and let nature move them into beautiful natural shapes.  Wood blanks will be available to pick up weekly, followed by a zoom based turning demonstration and discussion of students projects.  $25.00 cash lab fee payable to the instructor when picking up your blank, first day of class

Want to do some of it yourself? It is time to learn about what you can do to maintain a safe and secure home. This instructional series will help you be better informed and prepared. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday each week for three weeks.

  • Routine maintenance and the tools needed
  • The basics of electricity in your home (two sessions)

This class is a one session presentation and discussion focusing on audio and video needs for teaching various subjects remotely.
We will discuss and share options on: 
              *Microphones, earphones, and audio connection issues
              *Cameras, cell phones and webcams for class use
              *Single or multiple connections and using assistants
We also will discuss your specific issues in connecting with your students remotely. Bring your note pad, your specific needs and questions for this interactive session. Zoom.us software is the major teaching tool for remote learning. Develop more teaching skills with greater familiarity and knowledge of the basic Zoom setups to give your students the best experiences.  We will discuss basic setup for A/V and limit the presentation to using cell phone, tablets, laptops, and web cams. Low cost, lower tech, better teaching!
